COMPREHENSIVE PSYCHIATRIC EVALUATION
The Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluation is an integrated diagnostic process which typically takes place over 1-2 sessions, and involves a thorough review of your unique medical, psychological, and social circumstances. The evaluation might also involve neurologic and cognitive exams, laboratory tests, and a review of your medical records. This process leads to a “biospsychosocial formulation” – or differential diagnosis – upon which personalized treatment recommendations are made.
PSYCHOTHERAPY
Psychotherapy is also known as talk therapy. It is very effective on its own, or in combination with medication and other treatment methods. Dr. Zucker is skilled in many psychotherapeutic approaches, including cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, interpersonal, supportive and psychoeducational therapies. She places great value on understanding her patients in their individual contexts, and tailors her treatments to each patient’s individual goals.
MEDICATION MANAGEMENT
Medications may be an important part of certain treatment plans. Dr. Zucker will evaluate whether the use of medication might be helpful for you. She will discuss with you the likely benefits and potential risks of your treatment options. She pays careful attention to the whole body, taking into account your existing medical conditions, and other medications and supplements you might be taking. She will see you on a regular basis, so that she can monitor whether the medication is effective, if it is causing any side effects, and whether the medication continues to be necessary.
TELEPSYCHIATRY
Telepsychiatry is the delivery of psychiatric care using video conferencing or the telephone instead of in-person medical visits. Telepsychiatry is used in certain circumstances such as illness, hazardous weather or, as in our recent circumstances, a public health emergency. In many cases, telemedicine improves access to care, and allows greater flexibility. After an initial in-office evaluation, treatment follow-up may be provided by HIPAA compliant videoconferencing. Periodic in-person appointments may be required over the course of treatment. Dr. Zucker uses a secure HIPAA-compliant telepsychiatry platform.
Note: Due to licensure regulations, this service is only available to Maryland residents.
COLLABORATIVE CARE
With your permission, Dr. Zucker will coordinate your care with other members of your treatment team. In partnership with your talk therapist and other doctors, she will decide whether medication might be indicated for you. If so, Dr. Zucker will prescribe and monitor your medications, while you continue therapy with your talk therapist. In partnership with you and your doctors, she will monitor your treatment’s effects on your whole health.
